Enable Me To Death | Chapter 8 – Part 2

Continued From Enable Me To Death Chapter 8 – Part 1

Everyone loved Dan, he was a mover and a shaker. He had visions of grandeur and pursued them relentlessly, with a manic type of energy. When he was on top of his game, people listened and followed, he was a leader. He prided himself on being a trailblazer and vowed to reach the top or die trying. To the outside world, Dan was the man, but at home, while all alone, often times Dan would cry himself to sleep.

Enable Me To Death | Chapter 8 - Part 2
Dan always drank his fair share of alcohol and more times than not, more than his fair share. Alcohol allowed Dan to build his castles in the sky and keep his compass pointing north. Alcohol also took him to great depths, especially when the world was not cooperating. Dan had no balance and it was killing him. One night after having not realized one of his many outrageously high goals, his compass pointed south, way south. He drove out to the Golden Gate Bridge to end it all. He parked his car and began to walk to the jumping off point, when out of nowhere a car pulled up to him. Now this bridge is generally very busy, but this night it had appeared, at least for the moment, that it was Dan and this lone car. The man in the car asked Dan if he wanted a ride and asked him if he was alright. Dan told the man he wasn’t alright and was beyond help. The man told Dan that one time he wasn’t alright either, but instead found help in Alcoholics Anonymous. They talked for a while and Dan got into his car. The man took Dan to a hospital that treated alcoholism and mental disorders. Dan got well and sober to boot. Dan never saw that man again, perhaps the man was an angel, at least to Dan he was.

Dual Diagnosis A Step In The Right Direction

After some weeks of treatment and sobriety, Dan was treated for bi-polar disorder. He was accurately and professionally diagnosed by a medical doctor, a psychiatrist who was an addiction specialist. Now Dan is on proper medication and although he still dreams of castles in the sky, he finds that his internal compass rarely points to far south and not quite as far north. He’s more like an east-west guy now, more balanced. When alcoholics or addicts are in the throes of it all, there’s no balance. They have never known balance, even before the addiction started, which is why the addiction started in the first place. People like Dan, left untreated, can be very charismatic and attractive. They will take you to great heights and can absolutely scare you to death and kill you with the drops to hell. If you are living or are involved with someone like this, seek professional help at once, take direction, not only to help save their life, but yours as well. I believe that Dan was visited by an angel that night, one that lived in his castle in the sky. This doesn’t happen often, or maybe it does, but it does happen. Bi-polar disorder affects some very brilliant people. Self-medicating never works, it only prolongs the agony and can lead to death. It doesn’t have to be that way and you could possibly be somebody’s angel. Just remember, that even angels get directions. Make sure you get yours by seasoned treatment professionals. Never act alone.
