New reports suggest that heroin may have played a role in the death of Peaches Geldof, the daughter of the late Paula Yates and musician Bob Geldof.
The 25-year-old writer and model was found dead by her husband, musician Tom Cohen on April 7th in her Wrotham, Kent home, located just southeast of London.
“It was obvious to him that she was deceased,” said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Fotheringham. “She was located on the edge of a bed with one leg hanging down to the floor with the other leg tucked underneath her; she was slumped forward across the bed.”
Early Childhood Family Addiction Tragedy
Peaches, married with two children under age two, was only 11 when her own mother passed away of a drug overdose.
Forensic experts concluded that “there was recent use of heroin and that the levels identified where likely to have played a role in her death.”
The last known communication between Geldof and anyone else was on April 6th at 7:45pm; a phone call with a friend. Peaches had apparently spoken with friends and family during the day.
“All of the friends and family who had contact with Peaches during this period describe how she seemed her normal self and was making plans for the future, including booking a family outing…the following weekend. There was no cause for any concern,” said Fotheringham.
Geldof never sought help at an addiction rehab facility.
Recent reports have circulated of a syringe used by Geldof located in a drawer at the home where she was found.
Police initially reported no signs of drug use or drug taking paraphernalia. An examination performed on the body post mortem proved inconclusive.
Detectives investigating her death say that computer records from the home PC suggest that Geldof died around 11am, roughly 2 ½ hours before her body was discovered.
